This plain-language guide is for family and friends of those affected by posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by any kind of trauma, including accidents, natural disasters, war, and sexual or non-sexual assault. The guide explains how trauma affects the survivor and describes treatments that can help with PTSD, with advice on finding a therapist. One section of the book is devoted to taking care of the care-taker, setting limits, and communicating needs. Several chapters focus on coping with specific traumas.
