This book includes almost all of the commonly used numericalmethods for analysing boundary value problems involvingelectromagnetic fields. These methods are catalogued intodomain methods and boundary methods, based on onthe dif-ferential and integral equations, respectively. All thesemethods are analysed in terms of general concepts by usingthe weighted residual principle and the principle of varia-tions. The reader isshown the theoretical basis of eachmethod, its advantages and disadvantagesand the rela-tionship between the different methods, so that practicalproblems may be solved effectively and new methods suitablefor specific problems may be created. Examples and compu-ter programs are provided to illustrate the principles,methods and applications. Both the "how" and "why" of themethods are explained clearly.The contents are approachedstep by step to facilitate understanding. Based on the ana-lysis of electromagnetic fields, the optimization of thedesign of electromagnetic devices is introduced in thelast two chapters.
