Zvonkin, a mathematical researcher and teacher, relates how he conducted a math circle for preschool children in Moscow in the 1980s, which he began with his two young children. He describes the math problems he posed in sessions, strategies he tried, successes and failures, and what the children experienced. The mathematical puzzles are detailed along with the children's reactions, what they did and did not understand, and what kind of psychological problems and misunderstandings he encountered in the process. The book was originally published in Russian in 2007 as Malyshi i Matematika and has been translated by Zvonkin's wife, Alla Yarkho, an English teacher. It has been edited and annotated for this version. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
